Metal melting is a process performed in the foundries to convert the solid castings into molten metal and thus operate at high temperatures than the existing holding furnaces. The melting furnaces are different from the holding furnaces because they will have to be resistant enough to tolerate high temperatures, unlike ordinary furnaces.
Maca Supply uses high-quality melting furnaces to ensure that the optimum melting point of the metals is maintained before feeding the metals to the die casting furnaces. Maca Supply is one of the renowned cast foundries in Utah. We own high-quality crucible furnaces material that can hold metals of incredibly high temperatures, often made of ceramic or other refractory material. Our furnaces are capable of melting metal equipments used in small applications to large vessels that contain 50lbs of material. We usually place the larger crucibles inside a kiln-like furnace to lift them easily while pouring.
We also have our cupola furnaces at our company. These furnaces are long, chimney-like, and filled with coal-coke and other additives. The fuel inside the cupola is lit, and when the furnace is sufficiently hot, pig and scrap iron are added directly. The melting of the iron around the coke and additives adds carbon and other elements and produces different grades of iron and steel. Cupola furnaces are no longer usually used in production, as electric arc and induction methods are more efficient at producing the needed heat.
We use the induction furnaces at our foundry to mostly melt the steel castings. The induction furnaces of Maca Supply are of the finest quality and can produce huge tons of steel at each charge. These furnaces usually work with magnetic fields rather than with electrical arcs. When the metal is introduced into these furnaces, it is charged by a crucible surrounded by a powerful electromagnet made of coiled copper. Once the furnace is turned on, the coil creates a rapidly reversing magnetic field by introducing an alternating current. As the metal melts, the electromagnet creates eddies within the liquid that self-stir the material.
